Exports, imports down in July 2016, says statistics bureau

RAMALLAH, September 26, 2016 (WAFA) – The Palestinian Central Bureau of Statistics (PCBS) Monday released its ‘External Trade in Goods’ report for July 2016, revealing that exports have decreased by 13.8%, compared to June 2016.

PCBS said exports decreased in July 2016 by 5.4% compared to July 2015 and reached $67.0 million.

Meanwhile, exports to Israel decreased during July 2016 by 9.6% compared to the previous month, representing 91.7% of total exports for July 2016.

Exports to other countries also decreased by 42.6% during the same period compared to the previous month.

The report said imports decreased in July 2016 by 13.5% compared to June 2016. It also decreased by 65% compared to July 2015, reaching $377.2 million.

Imports from Israel decreased by 2.8% in July 2016 compared to the previous month, and represented 59.5% of total imports in July 2016. Meanwhile, imports from other countries decreased by 25.6% during the same period compared to the previous month.

The trade balance, which represents the difference between exports and imports, showed a decrease in trade deficit by 13.4% in July 2016 compared to the previous month. It also decreased by 6.8% compared to July 2015, reaching $310.2 million.
