RAMALLAH, July 28, 2016 (WAFA) – The killing of a 26-year-old Palestinian in an exchange of fire with Israeli forces after bombarding his house in the Hebron town of Surif hit the front page headlines in Palestinian daily newspapers.
The three dailies said Israeli forces killed Muhammad al-Faqih after bombarding and demolishing the house in which he was fortified in the Hebron town of Surif.
Al-Quds added that a general strike was declared in the al-Faqih’s hometown of Dura, while al-Hayat al-Jadida described the killing as assassination.
Moreover, al-Ayyam and al-Hayat al-Jadida highlighted a report by Israeli human rights group B’Tselem on ongoing demolition of Palestinian communities in West Bank Area C.
They reported B’Tselem as revealing Israel have demolished more Palestinian homes in the West Bank in the first six months of 2016 more than they did in all of 2015.
Al-Quds reported EU Ambassador to Israel Lars Faaborg-Andersen as “vehemently” criticizing Israel for the Palestinian house demolitions.
Furthermore, al-Quds and al-Ayyam highlighted in their main front page news items Israel’s plans to build hundreds of new settler units in Jerusalem.
They reported Israel advanced plans to build a total of 323 new settler units in four Israeli settlements across Jerusalem.
The three dailies reported in this regard UK Minister for the Middle East Tobias Ellwood reiterating: “All settlement activity is illegal ]under international law[, and damages prospects for a two-state solution.”
Furthermore, al-Hayat al-Jadida said tensions continued to mount inside Israeli prisons as Palestinian detainees joined a mass hunger strike in protest of depriving them of family visitations and in solidarity with hunger-striking detainees.
Highlighting Israeli detention raids across the West Bank, al-Quds said Israeli forces handcuffed and detained scores of Palestinians, mostly from Jerusalem district.
Al-Ayyam explained a total of 69 Palestinians were Wednesday detained from the West Bank, including 54 Palestinians from Jerusalem district.
Al-Ayyam said President Mahmoud Abbas is Saturday scheduled to meet US Secretary of State John Kerry in Paris.
