RAMALLAH, January 30, 2016 (WAFA) – The Shooting and injuring of dozens of Palestinians during weekly Friday clashes together with mourning over two Palestinian teens, who were killed during a fatal attack on an Israeli settlement hit the front page headlines in Palestinian dailies.
The three dailies reported that dozens of Palestinians were shot and injured with live and rubber-coated steel bullets fired by Israeli forces during peaceful weekly Friday clashes across the West Bank. Al-Quds added that an international solidarity activist was also shot and injured.
The three dailies also covered the mourning over the two Palestinian teens in their main front page news articles.
Al-Ayyam and al-Hayat al-Jadida reported that the bodies of Hussein Abu Gush, 17, and Osama ‘Allan, 23, were handed over by Israel after being withheld for four days.
Al-Quds added in this regard that thousands of Palestinians attended the funeral procession of Abu Gush in Qalandiya refugee camp and that ‘Allan would be laid to his rest Saturday in the Ramallah village of Beir ‘Ur at-Tahta.
It is worth noting that Abu Ghush and ‘Allan were killed last Monday following a stabbing attack that claimed the life of an Israeli settler woman in Beit Horon settlement.
Furthermore, the three dailies reported that Israeli forces stormed Al-Quds University in Abu Dis, ransacking and wreaking havoc inside student ’s offices and confiscating equipment.
Al-Hayat al-Jadida reported that Israeli settlers chopped down almonds trees in the Jenin village of ‘Arraba.
Furthermore, the three dailies highlighted the efforts exerted by France to convene an international peace conference with the purpose of breaking what media reports described as the deadlock between Israelis and Palestinians.
French Foreign Minister Laurent Fabius was quoted in the three dailies as announcing that his country would recognize the Palestinian state if efforts to convene the international conference fail.
The three dailies added in this regard that the French bid was welcomed by Palestinian leadership, while it was rejected by Israeli officials.
Al-Ayyam and al-Hayat al-Jadida highlighted in this regard renewed Palestinian diplomatic efforts to submit a draft resolution on Israeli settlement construction to the UN Security Council.
Furthermore, the three dailies covered the US’ move to reinstate labeling guidelines for West Bank goods.
The three dailies reported on US State Department as reiterating that West Bank products may not be labeled “Made in Israel”.
Al-Quds explained that the US reiterated the need not to label Palestinian products and products originating from Israeli settlements across the West Bank “Made in Israel”.
Highlighting growing Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions Movement (BDS) success, al-Quds reported that Israel lost $31 billion as a result of BDS movement, while al-Hayat al-Jadida reported that Israeli occupation authorities plan to invest INS100 million ($25,316,000) to fight BDS.
Al-Quds added in this regard that 168 Italian academics and researchers have signed a petition calling for boycotting Israeli universities over involvement in the production of arms for Israeli occupation.
In the aftermath of Israeli Prime Minister (PM) Benjamin Netanyahu’s meeting with Greek PM Alexis Tsipras and Cyprus President Nicos Anastasiades in Nicosia last week to sign cooperation agreements in the fields of water, offshore gas reserves and trade, al-Ayyam reported on the Arab Orthodox Central Council in Palestine and Jordan as expressing its perplexity at the Geek and Cypriot governments’ shifting policies toward the Palestinian issue.
Furthermore, the three newspapers highlighted media reports that US and US intelligence services hacked into Israeli drone feeds.
