Deteriorating conditions for sick and wounded detainees in Israel’s Ramleh Prison Clinic

RAMALLAH, July 21, 2025 (WAFA) – The Palestinian Commission for Detainees and Ex-Detainees Affairs has raised alarm over the worsening health conditions of sick and injured Palestinian detainees held at the so-called Ramleh Prison Clinic, citing severe medical neglect and harsh detention conditions.

In a statement issued Monday following a lawyer’s visit to the clinic, the Commission reported many of the detainees there suffer from critical health conditions, yet Israeli prison authorities consistently delay transferring them to civilian hospitals for essential medical tests and treatments. In some cases, detainees are returned from hospitals before completing treatment.

The prisoners also complained about the cramped space in the "recreation" yard, the restrictions on receiving clothing, and basic supplies, and poor quality and insufficient food, with only one type of meal offered to all prisoners—regardless of medical dietary needs.

It also emphasized that the suffering of sick prisoners surges with the prison administration's daily inspections of their rooms, without any consideration for their health conditions.

The Commission emphasized that 18 prisoners with chronic illnesses are held permanently in the Ramleh clinic, with others being moved in and out despite serious medical issues.
