Israeli Forces Detain 11 Palestinians, including Lawmaker, Summon Two from West Bank

JERUSALEM, January 28, 2016 (WAFA) – Israeli forces overnight detained 11 Palestinians, including a lawmaker and four minors, and summoned two others during predawn raids across West Bank, said a local activist and security sources.

Israeli police detained eight Palestinians, including a lawmaker and four minors, during multiple raids into several Jerusalem towns and neighborhoods.

WAFA reported on head of the Jerusalem Committee for Detainees’ Families Amjad Abu ‘Asab as saying Israeli police detained Muhammad Abu Tair, a Jerusalem lawmaker, 65, after storming and ransacking his house in Kafr Aqab neighborhood, north of Jerusalem.

Abu ‘Asab added that Abu Tair has been intermittently detained for at least 32 years in Israeli prisons and his permanent Jerusalem residency status was revoked several years ago.

Abu ‘Asab added that four other Palestinians were detained from Jerusalem’s Old City, Kafr Aqab, Shu‘fat and al-‘Issawiya neighborhoods.

The detainees were identified as Nabil ‘Abdulatif, Mahmoud Nasser, Muhammad al-Deisi and Shadi ‘Attiyeh, a minor.

Israeli police detained three other Palestinian minors during predawn raids into al-‘Issawiya and Shu‘fat. 

WAFA reported on Muhammad Mahmoud, a local attorney, that the detainees are Tamer Rabi‘, 14, Akram Mustafa, 15, and Khalil ‘Issa, 15. 

Meanwhile in Ramallah district, forces detained two Palestinians during a predawn raid into Beir Sira, a village to the west of the city.

The detainees were identified as Muhammad Hamdan, and his son, Rashid.

This came as forces stormed a Palestinian house during a predawn raid into Birzeit town, north of the city.

During the raid, forces stormed, ransacked and took photos for a house belonging to Najib Hassan. They also interrogated Najib’s son, Hassan, 18, without explaining the reasons for this raid.

In the southern West Bank, forces detained a Palestinian and summoned another during separate two raids into Tuqu‘ and al-‘Azza refugee camp.

Forces raided Tuqu‘ town, southeast of the city, where they proceeded to detain Muhammad Suleiman, 20, after storming his family house.

They also raided al-‘Azza refugee camp, north of the city, where they proceeded to hand Haytham Zubun, 20, a notice ordering him to appear before intelligence in the Gush Etzion detention and interrogation center.

In the northern West Bank district of Jenin, forces summoned a Palestinian from Jaba‘ town, south of the city.

Nazih Abu ‘Awn, a former detainee, was handed a notice ordering him to turn himself to intelligence in the Salem detention and interrogation center.
