Foreign Ministry Condemns Anti-Christian Graffiti Sprayed on Jerusalem Monastery

RAMALLAH, January 17, 2016 (WAFA) – Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Sunday condemned the act of spraying racist graffiti on the walls of the Dormition Monastery in occupied East Jerusalem, believed to be conducted by extremist Jewish settlers.

The ministry blamed the graffiti vandalism on the ongoing “incitement campaigns” carried out by Jewish rabbis and their following students, in which they blatantly called for attacking worship places and slaughtering Christians.

The ministry added that attacks on Christians and churches represent an aggression against the entire Palestinian people.

Meanwhile, the Latin Patriarchate of Jerusalem denounced the attack, stressing that strict measures should be taken against those who incite against Christians.

It said the attack came only three weeks after a similar attack was conducted by settlers against the Salesian Monastery in Beit Jamal.

Earlier this day, anti-Christian graffiti in the Hebrew language was found on the walls of the Dormition Monastery on Mount Zion, in occupied Jerusalem.

Sources at the Latin Patriarchate in Jerusalem said that a new act of vandalism took place against Christians in Jerusalem, noting that the racist graffiti was sprayed in the Hebrew language on the walls and doors of the monastery.

The source added that the sprayed graffiti was not only against Jesus, but also called for slaughtering Christians and sending them to hell.

To be noted, other numerous such incidents have previously took place against Christian sites, including churches, monasteries, and cemeteries. These incidents coincided with calls made by Jewish settler organizations to expel Christians from Jerusalem and to burn churches.
