Israeli Forces Arrest Youth, Summon Three Others

HEBRON, January 9, 2016 (WAFA) – Israeli forces Saturday detained a Palestinian youth from the city of Hebron, and summoned three others from Bethlehem for interrogation, according to local and security sources.

In Hebron, forces detained local Mousa Jameel, after raiding and searching his home in the city. He was led to an unknown destination.

Forces further set up military checkpoints at the entrances of Hebron’s towns of Sa’ir and Halhoul and at the city’s northern entrance, stopping Palestinian registered cars and checking the identity cards of passengers, which caused a traffic jam.

Meanwhile in Bethlehem, forces handed three Palestinians from the villages of Marah Rabah and Beit Fajjar notices ordering them to appear before the Israeli intelligence for interrogation.

The three were identified as  Khali Ash-Shaikh, Mahmoud Taqatqa, and his son Fadi, 27.

The Commission of Prisoners’ Affairs (CPA) said 6,830 Palestinians were detained by Israeli troops in the occupied Palestinian Territory since the beginning of the year 2015, marking the highest rate of daily arrests in five years.

It said 3285 Palestinians were detained in the past three months alone since the beginning of violent unrest in early October 2015.

It added that the numbers include 2,179 minors between the ages of 11 and 18, which indicates an increase by 72,1% compared to the previous year.

At least 225 women were also detained during 2015, 100% higher than the previous year.

CPA said almost 100% of these detainees underwent a form of physical or psychological abuse, in blatant violation of international law and human rights.
