Update: Israeli Army Kills Teenager upon Raid on Jenin Camp

JENIN, June 10, 2015 (WAFA) – The Israeli army shot and killed on Wednesday a Palestinian teenager during a predawn raid on Jenin refugee camp, in northern West Bank, medical and local sources reported.

According to the sources, an Israeli army force broke into the camp before dawn, sparking confrontations with the camp's youth. Sounds of gunfire and stun grenades were heard upon the raid, during which 20-year-old Izz ed-Din Bani-Ghara was shot dead with a live bullet in the chest.

The Islamic Movement Hamas issued a statement mourning Bani Ghara as one of its members, saying “his blood will not go in vain”.

Bani-Ghara’s body was transferred to Jenin’s public hospital, where mourners held him on their shoulders and hundred others marched in the streets to honor him, chanting slogans that decried the Israeli crime and warned to take revenge.

Meanwhile, the army stormed the city’s eastern neighborhood and arrested another teenager, also sparking confrontations with locals. The detainee was identified as Ahmad Nasra, 20.

The Palestinian consensus government condemned the killing of Bani-Ghara through its spokesman Ehab Bessaiso. He said, “What happened in Jenin is a recurring scenario that must be stopped immediately. We must not remain silent. The international community should pressure the government of the Israeli occupation to stop its violations against our people.”

Bessaiso considered the killing of Bani-Ghara a continuation of an Israeli policy which disregards the lives of Palestinians. He affirmed that putting an end to these crimes requires a serious international effort to end the occupation of the Palestinian Territories.
