RAMALLAH, May 6, 2015 (WAFA) – Palestinian officials’
visit to Syria seeking to protect Yarmouk refugee camp and its residents from
the Syrian conflict hit the front page headlines in Palestinian dailies.
Al-Ayyam reported that a PLO delegation is conducting
discussions ]with Syrian officials[ in
Damascus in an attempt to keep the Yarmouk camp out of the Syrian conflict.
Al-Quds quoted PLO official Zakaria al-Agha as announcing
that “Syria understands PLO’s position regarding not pursuing the military
option in the Yarmouk refugee camp.”
Both dailies added in this respect that UNICEF has
distributed food aid to the families who have been displaced from the camp as a
result of the ongoing fighting.
Al-Quds printed a photo featuring displaced families
receiving food aid at Yilda, south of Damascus and al-Ayyam printed another
photo featuring displaced families lining up to receive food aid.
Israeli forces assaults against Palestinian people across
the West Bank also hit the front page headlines in al-Quds daily newspaper.
Al-Quds reported that Israeli forces assaulted
Palestinian farmers in the Nablus village of Rujeib and detained early Tuesday 21 Palestinians from
multiple West Bank districts.
It also reported as part of this main front page news
item that Israeli female police officers assaulted Muslim female worshipers
inside the Al-Aqsa Mosque Complex.
It added that Israeli forces shot and injured several
Palestinians in the Bethlehem refugee camp of Ad-Duheishe, Jenin and the Nablus
area of al-Bathan.
On the other hand, al-Hayat al-Jadida reported that
President Mahmoud Abbas received a US Congress delegation and a Global Watch
delegation in the presidential headquarters in Ramallah.
It quoted him as stating that, “We will continue to hold
the red card against all forms of racism.”
Both al-Ayyam and al-Hayat al-Jadida reported that an
Israeli occupation court allowed right-wing extremist; and hardliner, Yehuda
Glick to force his way into the Al-Aqsa Mosque Complex.
Both al-Quds and al-Ayyam reported that French judges re-examining the evidence
surrounding the 2004 death of former President Yasser Arafat have concluded
their investigations and sent their dossier to the prosecutor.
Al-Quds reported that the Israeli Supreme Court has
postponed adjudicating the decision to revoke residency from and expel
Palestinian lawmakers representing Jerusalem.
Covering the Palestinian cabinet’s weekly session, it
reported the cabinet as stating that, “Achieving peace requires enabling the
Palestinian people to attain its national rights.”
Covering ongoing Israeli settlement construction across
the West Bank, al-Ayyam reported that Israel has gave the green light for the
construction of 1,531 settler units in ‘Ramat Shlomo’ settlement established on
seized lands belonging to the East Jerusalem refugee camp of Shu‘fat.
Al-Ayyam and al-Hayat al,Jadida reported that an Israeli
court has closed an investigation into a policeman who shot dead a young Palestinian carrying
Israeli citizenship, ]identified asKheir Hamdan[ in the Galilee
village of Kufr Kanna.
Al-Quds reported in this respect that 93% of complaints
lodged by Arabs against Israeli police are closed.
Al-Ayyam also reported that Israel has accused a
Palestinian carrying the Israeli citizenship from Kufr Kanna of transferring
funds to Hamas.
Al-Haayat al-Jadida reported that in response to
calls urging US singer Lauryn Hill to cancel an upcoming concert in
Israel and for her to boycott Israel over its ongoing military occupation
of Palestine, the singer canceled the concert in Israel.
It further reported that Armenia will allow Palestinian passport holders to
enter the country without the need to arrange a visa prior to arrival.
