Newspaper Review: Dailies Highlight Abbas’ 3-Stage Plan to Achieve Independent State

RAMALLAH, August 31, 2014 (WAFA) – The three Palestinian Arabic dailies highlighted in their Sunday issue a 3-stage plan announced by President Mahmoud Abbas to reach an independent State of Palestine.

Al-Quds:

-   President [Abbas] sets a plan of three stages to reach an independent state.

-   Confrontations [erupt] in al-Tour in Jerusalem, resulting in the injury of three [Israeli] policemen and the arrest of two Palestinian youths.

-   Settlers of Nahal Oz, [ near Gaza borders] are reluctant to return to their houses at this stage.

-   [Hamas deputy chief] Haniya: what happened in Gaza is a historical battle that will have [repercussions] in the aftermath.

-   Netanyahu: I withdrew my army from Gaza fearing their killing or arrest.

-   Legal expert: resistance actions are not among the specialties of the International Criminal Court.

Al-Ayyam:

 

-   Netanyahu and Ya’alon: Hamas relinquished all its demands and there will be no seaport [in Gaza].

-   Hamas: any international resolution to disarm us will be worthless.

-   An international company: rebuilding Gaza will take 20 years.

-   Golan Heights: battles [are taking place] between the Syrian regime and dissent … UN [peacekeeping soldiers] were evacuated from the area.

-   A breakthrough was achieved in the GCC-Qatari relations, yet without specifying a date for the return of ambassadors to Doha.

-   Jerusalem: dozens suffocated in confrontations in a-Tour neighborhood.

-   British lawmaker George Galloway was assaulted in London.

-   Israeli draft dodgers [of Gaza war] were released.

-   Egypt destroys more tunnels in Rafah.

-   ISIS declares the establishment of the State of Euphrates.

Al-Hayat al-Jadida:

 

-   Sources: President [Abbas] sets a 3-option plan to achieve a Palestinian state.

-   Gaza … landmarks have changed … rubble has turned into ‘shrines.’

-   [Minister of Agriculture Shawki] al-Ayasa: initial findings indicate that the [Israeli] occupation used phosphoric materials annihilating soil and crops.

-   Palestinians in Israel are facing a “semi-official” Israeli economic boycott.

-   [Minister of Economy Mohammad] Mustafa: we are in urgent need for US$300 million to relieve affected people in Gaza.

-   Fierce battles in Golan as 30 trapped peacekeepers were rescued.
