AMMAN, April 28, 2026 (WAFA) – President of the State of Palestine Mahmoud Abbas met on Tuesday with King Abdullah II of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan in the Jordanian capital, Amman.
During the meeting, they reviewed the latest developments in Palestine and discussed several regional and international issues of mutual concern.
At the outset of the meeting, the President praised Jordan’s firm positions, under the leadership of King Abdullah II, in support of the Palestinian cause and in defense of the rights of the Palestinian people in various international forums.
The President highly valued the humanitarian assistance provided by the Kingdom, including the establishment of field hospitals and the reception of the wounded from the Gaza Strip for treatment.
The President also commended Jordan’s role in safeguarding Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem within the framework of the Hashemite custodianship.
President Abbas affirmed the State of Palestine’s keenness to strengthen brotherly relations and cooperation with Jordan in a manner that serves the interests of the two brotherly peoples.
The President also briefed King Abdullah II on the serious Israeli escalation in the West Bank, including Jerusalem, resulting from colonial expansion policies, annexation attempts, and escalating violence by colonists, calling for the immediate release of Palestinian clearance revenues withheld by Israel.
The meeting also addressed ongoing violations against Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem and the obstruction of worshippers’ access to the sites. Both sides stressed the need to preserve the legal and historical status of these holy sites, commending the role of the Hashemite custodianship.
The President stressed the importance of commitment to implementing President Trump’s plan and United Nations Security Council Resolution 2803, in a way that leads to consolidating the ceasefire, facilitating the entry of aid, advancing to the second phase, and launching recovery and reconstruction efforts, ultimately achieving the two-state solution in line with relevant international legitimacy resolutions.
President Abbas also pointed to the importance of activating the coordination office between the Palestinian government and the executive bodies of the Peace Council.
The President reaffirmed the unity of the Palestinian land in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank, including East Jerusalem, rejecting any attempts to separate the Strip, as it is an integral part of the State of Palestine.
President Abbas reiterated commitment to the principle of one state, one law, and one legitimate authority, and to strengthening the integration of Palestinian institutions under the umbrella of the Palestinian government.
The President also briefed King Abdullah II on the comprehensive reform program being implemented by the Palestinian leadership, which commits to all its provisions. The program aims to develop state institutions, enhance governance and transparency, improve education, unify social protection systems, support the rule of law and digital transformation, strengthen the security and justice sectors, and complete democratic entitlements. These include the Fatah youth elections and local council elections, leading to the convening of the Eighth Fatah Conference next month, the Palestinian National Council elections in November, and the preparation of the constitution, the political parties law, and the general elections law, in preparation for holding presidential and legislative elections when appropriate conditions are met.
Both sides agreed to continue coordination and consultation on various issues in a manner that serves the interests of the two brotherly peoples.
The meeting was attended by Vice President of the State of Palestine Hussein al-Sheikh, Head of the General Intelligence Service Major General Majed Faraj, Diplomatic Advisor to the President Majdi Al-Khalidi, and Ambassador of the State of Palestine to the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan Attallah Khairi.
