Eastern churches in Bethlehem celebrate Palm Sunday

BETHLEHEM, April 5, 2026 (WAFA) – Christian churches in Bethlehem that follow the Eastern calendar celebrated Palm Sunday on Sunday, marking Jesus Christ’s entry into Jerusalem and the beginning of Holy Week. Participants included Greek Orthodox, Syriac, Armenian, and Ethiopian communities.

A mass was held at the Church of the Nativity, led by Greek Orthodox Patriarchal Vicar Metropolitan Vindictus, with the participation of parish priests and heads of Orthodox associations.

Following the mass, a palm procession took place in the church courtyard, and worshippers marched from the Church of the Nativity along Magharat al-Khalil Street to the Greek Orthodox Monastery within the church.

Masses were also held in Beit Jala and Beit Sahour at the Virgin Mary and Forefathers churches, concluding with the blessing of palm branches through three ceremonial rounds.

Metropolitan Vindictus said, “Today we prayed for the arrival of just peace in Palestine and across the world, and for an end to the shedding of innocent blood, for Christ came with a message of love, security, and peace.”
