Gaza launches third catch-up routine vaccination campaign targeting young children

RAMALLAH, April 4, 2026 (WAFA) – Minister of Health Majed Abu Ramadan announced on Saturday the launch of the third catch-up routine vaccination campaign in the Gaza Strip, scheduled to run from April 5 to 9, targeting around 6,000 children under the age of three.

The campaign will be carried out through 129 health facilities across Gaza, with the participation of 146 vaccination teams supported by 186 health educators. It aims to close gaps in immunization coverage and protect children from preventable diseases.

Abu Ramadan said the campaign comes amid the severe humanitarian and health conditions in Gaza, noting that the Ministry continues intensive efforts in coordination with international partners, particularly UNICEF and the World Health Organization, to ensure the continuity of essential health services and strengthen emergency response efforts.

The Ministry of Health confirmed that all logistical preparations have been completed, including the provision and pre-distribution of vaccines and essential supplies to 37 health facilities and 20 central storage and distribution points. Field supervisors have also been deployed across governorates to enhance coordination and oversight.

As part of logistical support, 69 vehicles have been allocated to facilitate the campaign’s implementation and ensure access to remote and underserved areas, including 59 vehicles supported by UNICEF and 10 additional vehicles provided by the World Health Organization.

In preparation for the campaign, the Ministry and its partners conducted a series of community awareness activities, including training 186 health educators and launching outreach efforts since April 1. These included mosque announcements, radio broadcasts, social media messaging, and field teams equipped with loudspeakers to improve community engagement.

In addition to vaccinations, the campaign will offer integrated services such as protection from exploitation and abuse, water and sanitation support, and nutrition services, enhancing the overall humanitarian impact.

The Ministry stated that the campaign will run daily from 8:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., calling on partners and institutions to support its success by facilitating field operations and ensuring access for all targeted children.

The Health Minister stressed that the campaign represents a national priority to safeguard children’s health in Gaza, underscoring the importance of coordinated national and international efforts to reach every child in need of vaccination.
