RAMALLAH, February 28, 2026 (WAFA) – Prime Minister Mohammed Mustafa instructed all public institutions to raise preparedness and readiness across medical facilities, civil defense, security agencies, and vital sectors, in line with President Mahmoud Abbas’ directives, to ensure the continuity of essential services, maintain security and stability, and uphold the rule of law.
The announcement followed his chairing of the government emergency cell meeting today, Saturday, which included ministers and heads of key sectors.
Key measures and directives include:
- Activating emergency committees in the governorates under governors’ supervision.
- Enhancing the readiness of the Ministry of Interior and its agencies to respond to field developments.
- Continuing Civil Affairs and Military Liaison efforts to facilitate citizens’ movement, goods transport, and institutional operations.
- Directing the Petroleum Authority to coordinate fuel and gas station operations and secure vital sector needs.
- Securing the needs of vital sectors.
- Maintaining a strategic stock of food and essential goods covering up to six months per item, with strict monitoring to prevent price manipulation.
Education: The Ministry of Education will shift to online learning for Sunday and Monday, with further instructions for schools and universities based on developments on the ground.
Health: Hospitals and medical centers are on maximum alert. The Ministry of Health confirmed that emergency department supplies are secured for three months and coordination with partner medical institutions has been strengthened to ensure an integrated health response.
Public Sector Employees: Staff are instructed to report to the nearest government institution to their residence, as determined by their department head, to maintain essential services and respond promptly to emergencies while ensuring the safety of employees and protecting citizens from any potential risks.
Citizens’ Role: Authorities urged citizens to follow official instructions, limit movement, avoid gatherings, refrain from spreading rumors or panic buying, and report market exploitation via the consumer protection hotline (129), stressing that the competent authorities will deal firmly with any attempts to exploit the current circumstances.
Emergency Contacts: In emergency situations, and to strengthen the coordination of roles between citizens and the relevant authorities, citizens should report incidents promptly to Civil Defense (102), Police (100), Red Crescent (101), and Military Liaison (163).
