JERUSALEM, March 11, 2026 (WAFA) – Israeli occupation authorities, through the legal organization HaMoked, notified freed Jerusalemite prisoner Rashid Al-Rashq of an official decision to revoke his permanent Jerusalem residency.
Al-Rashq was released on January 30, 2025, as part of the prisoner exchange agreement after spending nearly 14 years in Israeli prisons.
The Jerusalem Governorate quoted Al-Rashq as saying that the decision goes beyond merely revoking an identity card; it constitutes an attempt to uproot him from his city and sever his historical and geographical ties to his land and home.
He affirmed that the measure aims to strip him of his fundamental rights to reside in Jerusalem, describing it as a forced displacement targeting Jerusalemites.
Al-Rashq explained that losing his ID would prevent him from moving freely within Jerusalem and bar him from crossing military checkpoints separating him from his home in the Old City.
