Occupation undertakes construction works to expand Qalandiya Checkpoint and connect it to colonial roads

JERUSALEM, March 11, 2026 (WAFA) – A video released by Israeli media outlets shows ongoing construction near the Qalandiya military checkpoint, north of occupied Jerusalem.

In a statement issued Wednesday evening, the Jerusalem Governorate reported that Israeli occupation forces are working to link the new checkpoint to the colonial Route 45, which runs from the Mukhmas area to the checkpoint. The route is expected to eventually extend from Qalandiya toward Route 443 and the road leading to the Atarot colonial settlement.

The Governorate said these works are part of the colonial infrastructure projects that the occupation continues to implement around Jerusalem. These projects aim to connect colonial settlements north of Jerusalem and east of Ramallah to the city of Jerusalem, consolidating Israeli control over the region through a road network that primarily serves colonists.

The statement further noted that these colonial projects deepen the isolation of Palestinian communities from one another and entrench a new geographical reality, restricting Palestinian movement while enhancing connectivity among the colonial blocs surrounding Jerusalem.
