RAMALLAH, March 11, 2026 (WAFA) – The Commission of Detainees and Ex-Detainees Affairs and the Palestinian Prisoner’s Society (PPS) warned today that Israeli occupation authorities continue a dangerous escalation in the use of arbitrary administrative detention, aimed at expanding mass detentions against Palestinians.
In a statement issued Wednesday, the institutions said that legal teams received more than 180 administrative detention orders in just 15 days, including three for female detainees.
It indicated that, at the beginning of March, the number of administrative detainees reached 3,442, including 20 women and dozens of children, with administrative detainees now accounting for over 36% of all prisoners in Israeli occupation jails. This alarming figure reflects an unprecedented expansion in the use of this repressive policy compared to other categories of detainees, including those serving sentences, held in detention, or classified as so-called “illegal combatants,” said the statement.
It added that the vast majority of those detained since the onset of the ongoing conflict were immediately placed under administrative detention, alongside detentions carried out under the pretext of so-called “incitement” on social media, as part of a continuous attempt to enforce a repressive system targeting the Palestinian presence.
