RAMALLAH, February 26, 2026 (WAFA) – Palestinian Minister Ahmed Assaf, General Supervisor of Official Palestinian Media, affirmed that the Palestinian News & Information Agency (WAFA) receiving the inaugural “UNA” Award for media professionalism underscores the advanced standing the agency has achieved in terms of professionalism and credibility.
Minister Assaf stated that WAFA's achievement comes amid extremely challenging conditions and constitutes a clear message of support for Palestinian media, which has subjected to the most egregious forms of targeting by Israeli occupation authorities and has lost hundreds of journalists during the recent aggression against the Palestinian people.
Minister Assaf congratulated the agency's staff on this achievement, emphasizing that the award solidifies WAFA's position as an icon of Palestinian media and a professional platform that reflects the national narrative with credibility and responsibility.
Assaf also expressed gratitude to the General Director of the Union of News Agencies of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (UNA), Mohammad bin Abdurahman Al-Yami, for granting the award, considering it a well-deserved recognition of its media and national role.
He also extended his thanks to the Secretary General of the Muslim World League, Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdul Karim Al-Issa, for his support and appreciation.
To be noted, UNA, which includes 57 member states of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, opened its first foreign office in Palestine at WAFA’s headquarters in Ramallah in March of last year.
