RAMALLAH, Monday, March 28, 2022 (WAFA) – The fatal shooting attack in the northern Israeli town of Khudeira and the meeting between President Mahmoud Abbas and US Secretary of State Antony Blinken were highlighted on the front page of the three Palestinian Arabic dailies published today.
Al-Quds and al-Ayyam made the shooting attack their main front-page story and said two Israeli police officers were killed along with the two assailants and several people were killed when the assailants, said to be Arab-Israelis, opened fire at them in Khudeira.
The third daily, al-Hayat al-Jadida, quoted President Abbas saying in the meeting with Blinken in Ramallah yesterday that the priority is always for a political solution that would end the Israeli occupation of Palestine.
The paper also quoted Blinken saying that the US is committed to restoring relations with the Palestinian Authority while renewing commitment to the two-state solution.
Al-Quds and al-Ayyam also highlighted the meeting between President Abbas and Blinken, with al-Quds quoting the President criticizing the double standards exposed in the Russian war on Ukraine.
The results of the second phase of the local elections were also highlighted on the front page of the three dailies.
Al-Quds said the independent lists won the majority of seats in the local elections, a total of 64.4%, as a little over 53% of the eligible voters have participated in the elections.
Al-Hayat al-Jadida quoted presidential spokesman Nabil Abu Rudeineh saying that the results of the local elections were a big victory, and quoted Prime Minister Mohammad Shtayyeh saying that holding elections was a victory for democracy, liberty and pluralism.
In other local news, al-Hayat al-Jadida said the Israeli occupation authorities ordered a halt on construction on a house and an electricity grid in the village of Tuwaneh, in Masafer Yatta, while threatening to close several shops in Hebron city.
It also said two workers were killed when a building under construction collapsed in the city of Tulkarm.
Al-Ayyam said Israeli settlers broke into and took over Petra hotel in Jaffa Gate in Jerusalem.
Al-Quds said Israeli police arrested a Palestinian lawyer at the hotel.
It also said settlers have set up caravans in the northern West Bank village of Qusra.
Al-Quds and al-Ayyam dailies also reported on their front page about the developments in the war in Ukraine and the reactions to US President Joe Biden calling for overthrowing Russian President Putin.
