RAMALLAH, Wednesday, March 23, 2022, (WAFA) – The car-ramming and stabbing attack in Beersheba in the south of Israel that left four Israelis dead along with the assailant and Israeli army and settlers’ attacks against Palestinian civilians in the occupied territories were highlighted on the front page of the three Palestinian Arabic dailies published today.
They said a 34-year-old resident of the Israeli Arab town of Houra in the Naqab desert carried out the attack and that he was killed in the process.
Al-Quds daily said that Israeli settlers, and in retaliation for the Beersheba incident, attacked Palestinian civilians in the north of the occupied West Bank, throwing rocks at their homes and vehicles.
Al-Ayyam daily said the Israeli army broke into Qalandia refugee camp earlier yesterday where confrontations broke out with residents leaving dozens injured, some from rubber bullets.
It also said Palestinians clashed with soldiers in other West Bank areas, mainly in Ras Karkar village near Ramallah when the army attacked Palestinians trying to plant trees in village land.
The third daily, al-Hayat al-Jadida, highlighted a statement by President Mahmoud Abbas on World Water Day in which he said the world should not remain silent regarding Israeli theft of Palestinian water resources.
It said the United Nations Security Council debated yesterday a mechanism to implement resolution 2334 that calls for an end to Israeli settlement activities in the occupied Palestinian territories.
The paper also reported on meetings a World Bank delegation held in Ramallah with Prime Minister Mohammad Shtayyeh and Finance Minister Shukri Bishara and quoted the latter saying that his ministry is working in extraordinary conditions demanding pressure on Israel to stop deducting money from the Palestinian tax funds.
Al-Quds said that Palestinian freedom fighters in Israeli jails are getting ready to go on hunger strike on Friday in protest against their treatment by the Israel Prison Services.
It quoted Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh saying from Qatar that his movement stands behind the prisoners in their struggle and that it is making contacts to prevent any escalation.
The paper also said that the Israeli minister of internal security said he will allow Jewish fanatics to break into Al-Aqsa Mosque in Jerusalem during the Muslim holy fast month of Ramadan, which starts in 10 days.
It said Israeli police refused to heed a call by doctors at an Israeli hospital to remove the handcuffs off a Palestinian detainee who is in a coma. The detainee, Murad Barakat, from Jerusalem, was shot and critically wounded on Saturday after stabbing an Israeli.
Al-Ayyam said the three-way Sharm al-Sheikh summit that included the Egyptian, Emirati and Israeli leaders, discussed the Iran issue and the Ukraine war, mainly its impact on fuel and food security.
The war in Ukraine was also covered on the front page of the three dailies.
