RAMALLAH, Saturday, April 03, 2021 (WAFA) – The Israeli army crackdown on peaceful Palestinian anti-occupation, anti-settlements protests in the occupied territories yesterday was highlighted on the front page of the three Palestinian Arabic dailies published today.
They said many Palestinians were either injured or suffocated from teargas fired by the soldiers at the protests in several villages in the north of the West Bank and near Ramallah.
The papers also published pictures of the protests in Beit Dajan village near Nablus.
Al-Quds daily reported on the protests in Sheikh Jarrah neighborhood of occupied East Jerusalem against a decision to evict Palestinians from their homes for the benefit of illegal settlers and said two Palestinian-Israeli lawmakers paid a solidarity visit to the protesters.
Al-Quds also said in a report from its Washington correspondent that the US administration considers the Israeli occupation of the West Bank, Gaza and the Golan Heights “a historical fact”.
Al-Ayyam daily quoted the US State Department spokesman saying that the Palestinian people will decide on holding democratic elections.
It also quoted the Saudi foreign minister telling CNN that normalizing relations with Israel is contingent on progress in the peace process with the Palestinians and the establishment of the Palestinian state.
Al-Hayat al-Jadida daily also said Washington lifted the sanctions the previous US administration imposed on the prosecutor and staff of the International Criminal Court.
The latest with the coronavirus pandemic at home, the region and the world was highlighted on the front page of the three Palestinian Arabic dailies.
They said that 16 people have died of the disease in Palestine yesterday and 2248 new cases were recorded.
Al-Ayyam said four deaths and 62 new cases were recorded in East Jerusalem over the past two days, and 99 deaths and 4774 new cases were recorded yesterday in neighboring Jordan.
The three papers also reported on the marking of Good Friday in Jerusalem yesterday and the annual procession on Via Delarosa to the Holy Sepulcher, where Jesus Christ was believed crucified and buried.
