Israel to discuss approval of 126 settlement units in northern West Bank

TEL AVIV, April 29, 2026 (WAFA) – Israel's so-called Higher Planning Council is expected to review today a series of settlement expansion plans, including the approval of 126 new housing units in the settlement of Sanur in the northern occupied West Bank.

According to Israeli media, the plan includes the construction of private homes and buildings near a historic fortress, marking what would be the first redevelopment plan in settlements that were previously evacuated.

Sanur was among settlements evacuated in 2005 under Israel’s unilateral disengagement plan, which included four settlements in the northern West Bank.

Israeli authorities had already announced the revival of Sanur earlier this week during a ceremony attended by senior Israeli officials, including ministers and settlement leaders.

The original disengagement plan was implemented in 2005 and later effectively reversed through legislative and policy changes approved in recent years.
