Foreign Ministry condemns approval of 126 housing units in illegal colonial settlement in northern West Bank

RAMALLAH, April 29, 2026 (WAFA) – The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates condemned Israeli occupation authorities’ approval of the construction of 126 new housing units in the Sanur colonial settlement, illegally established on lands in Jenin governorate in the northern occupied West Bank.

It noted that the move reflects the Israeli government’s insistence on entrenching and systematically expanding colonial settlement activity across the occupied Palestinian Territory, including East Jerusalem.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in a statement issued on Wednesday evening, stressed that Israel, the occupying power, has no sovereignty over the occupied Palestinian Territory, and that all settlement activities, including the re-establishment of outposts illegally built on Palestinian citizens’ lands, land theft and settlement expansion, are illegal, null and void, and do not create any legal effect under international law and relevant United Nations resolutions.

It emphasized that these practices constitute a flagrant violation of international law and relevant UN resolutions.

The ministry stressed that the continued Israeli government’s colonial settlement expansion deliberately undermines any possibility of achieving peace, aims at displacing the Palestinian people and deepening the existing colonial apartheid system, and constitutes a blatant challenge to the will of the international community and international humanitarian law.

It called on the international community, including the UN Security Council and the High Contracting Parties to the Geneva Conventions, to assume their legal and moral responsibilities and take urgent and binding measures to halt Israeli settlement activity, including imposing sanctions and conditioning states’ relations with Israel on its compliance with international law and UN resolutions, and to compel Israel, the occupying power, to stop its ongoing violations and provide international protection for the Palestinian people.

The ministry reaffirmed that all Israeli settlement measures in the occupied Palestinian Territory, including the West Bank and East Jerusalem, are rejected and condemned and will not create any legal validity.

It stressed that this land will remain occupied Palestinian territory until the end of the occupation and the establishment of an independent Palestinian state, with East Jerusalem as its capital.
