RAMALLAH, September 5, 2011 (WAFA) – PLO Executive Committee Member, Nabil Shaath, Monday stressed that threats will not stop the Palestinian leadership from going to the United Nations in September to gain full membership of a Palestinian state within 1967 borders.
Shaath, in an interview with a local station, rejected any political threats or financial extortion to stop the Palestinians from heading to the UN, stressing that anyone threatening the Palestinian bid is threatening international peace.
He also emphasized that there is no relation between resuming negotiations and going to the UN to demand an independent state and the right to self-determination.
Shaath said there is currently no chance to resume negotiations with Israel without an immediate stop of settlement activities, Israel’s acceptance of UN Resolution 242 and acceptance of an independent Palestinian state within 1967 borders and with East Jerusalem as its capital.
Shaath left the Palestinian Territory and headed to Turkey in a European tour of Brussels, Britain and Romania to rally more international support for the Palestinian UN bid.
