Israel Raids Awarta Again

AWARTA, April 12, 2011 (WAFA) - Israeli occupation forces Tuesday resumed their siege and curfew in Awarta village in east Nablus, north of the West Bank, for the fifth day, according to local sources.

The Palestinian Arab Prisoner’s Rights Association, Addameer, in a statement Tuesday declared that until 11:30 a.m., Israeli soldiers were holding 20 members of the Awad family, including 10 children and a pregnant woman, in one single room.

According to one of the family members, who is currently in the house, one of the women required medical assistance after fainting earlier, but the Israelis prevented an ambulance from reaching the house from 9 a.m. until 11:30 a.m.

The ambulance was finally able to access the house at 11:30 a.m. and took the sick woman and the pregnant woman.

The witness added that, as of noon, Israeli forces were still occupying the house and holding 18 members of the family inside.

Addameer called on the international community to immediately intervene to stop the targeting of Awarta village. Israel has been conducting ongoing collective punishment in the village for the last month, since the 11th March killing of 5 settlers in the illegal Itamar settlement constructed on Awarta lands, despite the fact that no Palestinian has taken responsibility for the incident.
