Farmer Banned from his Grove

SALFIT, April 2, 2011 (WAFA)- Israeli settlers from the illegal settlement of Ravava and soldiers Saturday prevented a Palestinian farmer from entering his groves in the town of Deir Estia, east of Salfit in the northern West Bank.

The farmer, an 86 year old man, said he was going to attend to his olive groves, with two workers, when the settlers and soldiers denied him access.

He said settlers have razed and uprooted over 200 trees leaving him with only 350 trees. He said that the Israeli army closed the road leading to his land and incorporated it to the settlement forcing him to take a longer road to reach his land.

Ravava was built on land belonging to the villages of Haris and Deir Estia in 1991. There has been recent construction activity on Palestinian properties and expropriated lands.

Settlers have also brought 22 new caravans into the settlement to further expand the outpost.
