Al-Barghouti Meets with German FM
RAMALLAH, May 5, 2007 (WAFA) - Minister of Information stressed on Saturday persistence to make the unity government a success, warning the continuation of the embargo may lead to the collapse of the Palestinian National Authority.
Al-Barghouti's comments came during his meeting with the German Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier in the West Bank City of Ramallah.
He said the Palestinian side has offered many initiatives such as the truce, the prisoners' swap and the Arab peace initiative, but, he said, Israel meets such initiatives with more violence and escalation.
Al-Barghouti called for a European pressure on Israel to stop its violations against the Palestinian people. He also called for holding a an international peace conference.
He stressed the necessity of finding new mechanisms to send money to the Palestinian people, urging for sending the assistance through the ministry of finance.
The information minister also called for lifting the embargo placed on the Palestinian people, saying that its has been difficult to the Palestinians to meet their daily needs. He renewed his government's refusal to the new US plan.
