President Abbas Hopes Negotiations with Israel would Continue
GENEVA, April 26, 2007 (WAFA) - President Mahmoud Abbas expressed hope on Thursday that negotiations with the Israeli would continue to launch e meaningful peace process.
President Abbas was speaking after meeting with Swiss President Micheline Calmy-Rey in Geneva. He said they discussed the Middle East situation, including the formation of national unity government and the Arab peace initiative.
President Abbas also reiterated that he had information that the BBC correspondent kidnapped by gunmen in the Gaza Strip six weeks ago was alive. "We can say he is kidnapped and in an unknown place in Gaza, and he is alive," President Abbas said, adding that the government was doing what it could to secure Alan Johnston's release.
