JENIN, Thursday, June 11, 2020 (WAFA) – An Israeli military court sentenced today Palestinian detainee Salem Ghaleb Abu-Bakr, 28, to six years and eight months in jail and a fine of 18,000 shekels ($5,200).
Abu-Bakr, who comes from the city of Jenin in the north of the West Bank, was arrested in April 2018 during a raid by the Israeli army on his family’s house.
Meanwhile, the Israeli military court of Salem, northwest of Jenin in the occupied West Bank, renewed the administrative detention, without a charge or trial, of Palestinian detainee and lawyer Assil Diaa Zughebi for another four months.
Administrative detention is the imprisonment of Palestinians without charge or trial at orders from an Israeli military commander and on the basis of secret evidence. The order normally goes for three to six months, indefinitely renewable by Israeli military authorities.
