RAMALLAH, Thursday, March 26, 2020 (WAFA) – The first fatality in Palestine as a result of the deadly coronavirus disease was highlighted on the front page of the three Palestinian Arabic dailies today.
The papers said the first fatality case was of a woman in her 60s from the village of Biddo, northwest of Jerusalem, and said that several members of her immediate family have also tested positive for the disease and were placed in special quarantine center near Ramallah.
Coronavirus pandemic at home, in Israel and around the world continues to be the dominant topic of the Palestinian dailies.
Al-Hayat al-Jadida said President Mahmoud Abbas contacted the mufti of Jerusalem and Palestine, Sheikh Mohammad Hussein, to inquire about the situation of the Palestinian people in occupied East Jerusalem.
It also said the Palestinian prisoners in Israeli jails have sent an urgent appeal to save their lives before it is too late due to concern they may be hit by the coronavirus disease.
Al-Quds said the Israeli occupation forces have closed entrances to two villages in the north of the West Bank, clashed with Palestinians in some villages and continued to raze land near Qalqilya to build new settlement units.
It said the Church of the Holy Sepulcher, the site of the crucifixion and burial of Jesus Christ, in Jerusalem’s old city has been closed as a result of the coronavirus outbreak.
Al-Ayyam said the shopping rush in the West Bank for basic supplies has returned to normal as the ministry of economy stressed that there is no shortage in supplies.
It said Jordan’s King Abdullah has ordered cancellation of collecting rent from places in Jerusalem’s old city owned by the Jordanian government-run Waqf department.
