Jordan condemns storming of Al Aqsa mosque by Israeli extremist minister Ben-Gvir

AMMAN, April 6, 2026 (WAFA) – condemned the storming of Al-Aqsa Mosque by Israeli extremist National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir, accompanied by Israeli occupation forces, describing it as a blatant violation of international law and international humanitarian law, as well as a reprehensible escalation and unacceptable provocation.

It affirmed that the storming of Al-Aqsa Mosque infringes on the sanctity of the holy site and undermines its established historical and legal status quo.

Ministry spokesperson Fouad Majali said the Kingdom condemns and firmly rejects the storming of Al-Aqsa Mosque by Israeli extremist Minister Ben-Gvir, describing it as a blatant violation of international law and Israel’s obligations as the occupying power in occupied Jerusalem, and an attempt to impose temporal and spatial division. He emphasized that Israel has no sovereignty over occupied Jerusalem or its Islamic and Christian holy sites.

Majali also renewed the Kingdom’s condemnation of Israel’s continued closure of Al-Aqsa Mosque to worshippers and restrictions on freedom of worship, slamming the measures as a blatant violation of international law, the established historical and legal status quo, and Israel’s obligations as the occupying power, while warning of the serious consequences of their continuation.

He further stressed that the entire 144-dunum area of Al Aqsa Mosque is a place of worship exclusively for Muslims, and that the Jerusalem Awqaf Department and the administration of Al-Aqsa Mosque, affiliated with the Jordanian Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Holy Sites, are the legally authorized bodies with exclusive jurisdiction over managing its affairs and regulating access to Al-Aqsa Mosque.
