RAMALLAH, Wednesday, September 25, 2019 (WAFA) – By deliberately disregarding the Palestinian issue during his speech at the United Nations General Assembly yesterday, US President Donald Trump is not helping achieved peace in the region, the Palestinian Foreign Ministry said in a statement today.
It said that while Trump was making his speech, Israel was carrying out mass arrests in Jerusalem and the West Bank and demolishing Palestinian homes.
Trump, it said, attempted “to bypass the Palestinian cause and the Arab-Israeli conflict by highlighting other crises in the region, ignoring the existence of the occupation and its threat to security and stability in the Middle East and the world.”
The ministry said Trump‘s positions “have become a cover that encourages the occupation authorities to commit more atrocities and violations against our people, which go against the international consensus expressed by most of heads of state, whether in their speeches at the UN General Assembly or during their meetings with President Mahmoud Abbas or in their public statements.”
It called for launching an international peace conference to supervise negotiations between the Israelis and Palestinians in light of the failure of the US to play the role of an honest mediator.
