United Nations, humanitarian partners have moral clarity to deliver life-saving aid across Gaza

NEW YORK, May 17, 2025 (WAFA) – Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator Tom Fletcher stressed that the United Nations and its humanitarian partners have the expertise, determination, and moral clarity to deliver life-saving aid across Gaza.

In a statement on Saturday, Fletcher addressed those proposing an alternative method for distributing aid, saying, "Let's not waste time. We already have a plan. This document reframes it. It is based on the non-negotiable principles of humanity, impartiality, neutrality, and independence."

He added, "It is supported by a coalition of donors and the vast majority of the international community, and it is ready to be activated today if we are simply allowed to do our jobs."

He noted, "We have the people, we have the distribution networks, we have the trust of the communities on the ground, and we have the aid itself—160,000 pallets ready to be distributed now."

Fletcher pointed out that the United Nations has done this before, "and we can do it again. We know how to register aid supplies, check them, recheck them, load them, unload them, inspect them, reload them, move them, store them, protect them from looting, track them, truck them, monitor them, and deliver them without diversion, without delay, and with dignity."
