Newspaper Review: Funeral of slain minor focus of dailies

RAMALLAH,  Sunday, September 22, 2019 (WAFA) – News about the funeral of a slain Palestinian minor whose body was recently released after it was withheld by Israeli authorities for one months, hit the front pages of the three Arabic Palestinian dailies on Sunday.

Al-Quds, al-Ayyam and al-Hayat al-Jadida said that Nasim Abu Rumi, 14, whose body was withheld by the Israeli army for more than one month and was handed over to his family on Friday, was laid to rest yesterday in his hometown of Al-Eizariya, to the east of Jerusalem.

They added that hundreds of Palestinians took part in the funeral procession, which set off from his home in the town. They chanted slogans that condemned Israel forces’ extrajudicial killing of Palestinians.

The dailies reported that at least six Palestinians sustained suffocation from teargas during an Israeli army raid of the town of Al-Eizariya.

The dailies said Minister of Health, Mai Alkaila, warned that a threatened blackout by the Israeli Electricity Company in three Palestinian governorates may put the lives of many patients at risk, as the blackout may damage medicines that need cooling or freezing.

The papers said that Jewish Temple organizations called for mass provocative visits to the holy Al-Aqsa Mosque compound in Jerusalem to celebrate the Jewish holidays.

Al-Ayyam said that Israeli President Reuven Rivlin will start consultations on the next Prime Minister following the recent Israeli elections, which showed tied results between Benjamin Netanyahu and Benny Gantz.
