Newspapers Review: Woman shot dead in cold blood at Qalandia checkpoint

RAMALLAH, Thursday, September 19, 2019 (WAFA) – The killing in cold blood of a Palestinian woman at Qalandia checkpoint north of Jerusalem yesterday occupied the front page headlines in the three Palestinian Arabic dailies today.

The papers said Israeli guards shot the woman under the pretext she had a knife even though she did not pose any immediate danger to anyone and then left her to bleed to death.

Al-Quds said Israelis handed out home demolition orders in Jerusalem and razed land and cut trees in the West Bank.

The three papers also reported on the results of the Israeli elections and the difficulty of either of the two major parties, the Likud and Blue-White, to form a government.

Al-Ayyam said in report quoting a US official telling the paper that the results of the Israeli elections gave a hard blow to the American so-called deal of the century, which will be made public when the time is right.

Al-Hayat al-Jadida said Saudi Arabic once again strongly denounced Israeli plans to annex occupied Palestinian land, stressing that such a move will be null and void and a critical escalation on the ground.

Al-Quds and al-Hayat al-Jadida said the European Union has called on Israel to end all its settlement activities in the occupied Palestinian territories and to dismantle existing settlement outposts.

The three papers also quoted the World Bank saying the liquidity crisis weighs on an already strangled Palestinian economy.

Al-Quds said seven people were injured in Gaza when a missile apparently fired at Israel fell on a house inside the Gaza Strip.

Al-Ayyam reported on the tension in the Gulf following the attack on the Aramco oil installations and said Saudi Arabia says the attack came from the north and not from Yemen.

The three papers also said the southern West Bank town of Bani Naim was bereaved by news of the death of four young members of the community in a car accident.
