Israel orders Palestinians to halt construction of houses, shacks in Jenin-district village

JENIN, Wednesday, September 18, 2019 (WAFA) – Israeli forces today delivered stop-construction orders for a number of Palestinian houses and shacks in Barta‘a, a village isolated behind Israel’s separation wall, southwest of Jenin.

Local sources said an Israeli military force raided Barta’a and handed eight residents notices ordering them to halt the construction on their houses and shacks purportedly for being built without licenses.

Barta‘a was divided into two parts following the 1984 War which resulted in the creation of Israel. Western Barta‘a (Barta‘a al-Gharbiyya) fell on the Israeli side of the 1948 armistice line, known as the Green Line, while Eastern Barta‘a (Barta‘a al-Sharqiyya) remained within the West Bank.

Eastern Barta‘a, famous for its fertile lands, grazing fields and livestock, later became isolated on the western side of the separation wall.
