RAMALLAH, Tuesday, September 17, 2019 (WAFA) – The Palestinian cabinet’s meeting in the northern Jordan Valley dominated the front page headlines in Tuesday’s issue of the three Palestinian Arabic dailies.
The dailies reported that the cabinet convened its weekly session in the Jordan Valley and launched a plan to reinforce the steadfastness of the Palestinians living in the Jordan Valley.
Prime Minister Mohammad Shtayyeh, who chaired the session, was reported in al-Hayat al-Jadida stressing that the Jordan Valley is “part and parcel of the geography of Palestine,” therefore, “threats to annex them to Israel are null and void.”
The Israeli parliamentary elections, scheduled today, the tight race between Israeli Premier Benjamin Netanyahu’s Likud party and former military chief Benny Gantz’s Blue and White party and racist electoral rhetoric against Palestinians also hit the front page headlines.
Al-Quds and al-Ayyam spotlighted Netanyahu’s electoral promise to annex Israeli illegal settlements in the southern West Bank district of Hebron if re-elected.
Al-Ayyam printed an opinion piece titled The Palestinians are not pinning hopes on the Israeli elections.
Al-Ayyam and al-Hayat al-Jadida said that Israel will impose a total closure on the West Bank and besieged Gaza Strip on election day.
Al-Ayyam said that a Dutch court with international jurisdiction will hold a hearing on Israeli war crimes during the 2014 onslught.
The dailies said that Israeli forces demolished a house and two greenhouses in al-Walaja village, northwest of Bethlehem.
Al-Ayyam and al-Hayat al-Jadida said that Israeli settlers attacked the Palestinian villages of Duma and Einabous, south of Nablus, vandalizing property.
Al-Quds added that Israeli forces injured a number of Palestinians during raids that triggered confrontations in Einabous and Beit Ummar town, north of Hebron.
According to al-Hayat al-Jadida, Israeli military rounded up 20 Palestinians in multiple West Bank raids and physically assaulted a Palestinian elderly man outside Deir Nidham village, northwest of Ramallah.
The dailies reported the Jerusalem District Electricity Company confirming that it has received its third warning from the Israeli Electricity Company that it will begin cutting electricity to the Palestinian West Bank districts of Ramallah, Bethlehem and Jericho within the coming week.
According to al-Quds, new batches of Palestinian prisoners in Israeli jails have started an open-ended hunger strike.
Al-Ayyam elaborated that 100 prisoners have joined hunger strikers in Israel’s Ramon Prison following the Israeli Prison Service’s disregard for their demands.
Al-Hayat al-Jadida added in this regard that Israeli occupation authorities have renewed the administrative detention of Sultan Khlouf, a Palestinian prisoner who has been hunger striking for 61 days.
Highlighting the finding of the latest public opinion poll by the Palestinian Center for Policy and Survey Research, al-Quds said that a majority of 63 percent believes that the two-state solution is no longer feasible or practical.
It added that a majority believes that the chances for the creation of a Palestinian state are very slim.
The dailies highlighted Chinese Foreign Ministry urging Israel to uphold the foundations of the Middle East peace process and warning of escalating tensions and instability in the region.
