Newspapers Review: March demanding return of victims‘ bodies focus of dailies

 

RAMALLAH, Wednesday, August 28, 2019 (WAFA) - News about the march held by Palestinians demanding the release of bodies of loved ones withheld by Israel for years hit the front page of the three Arabic Palestinian dailies today.

Al-Hayat al-Jadida, al-Ayyam and al-Quds said that dozens of Palestinians, including families of those whose bodies have been withheld by the Israeli authorities, participated in a march in the West Bank city of Ramallah demanding the return of the remains of their sons killed by Israelis and which have been withheld for months and years for proper burial at their hometowns, while calling on international and h humanitarian organizations to pressure Israeli into releasing them.

Al-Quds said that Israeli forces notified last night three Palestinian families of their apparent intention to demolish their houses in Beit Kahel town, northwest of Hebron in the south of the occupied West Bank. Security sources confirmed that an Israeli military force surrounded the houses of the families of Ahmad Aref Asafra and Mu’men Said Zuhur, currently held in Israeli detention, besides to the house of Mu’men’s grandfather, Attieh, dragged the occupants outside before taking measurements of the three houses for what appears to be an imminent demolition.

President Mahmoud Abbas sent a cable of support and condolences to the President of Sudan‘s Council Lt. Gen. Abdul-Fattah al-Burhan, following the floods that killed more than 60 people in Sudan, according to al-Hayat al-Jadida.

Al-Ayyam highlighted news about the explosion that targeted two police checkpoints in the Gaza Strip, which killed three Palestinian officers and injured eight others, including pedestrians and a woman.

The paper also said that Israeli forces Tuesday overnight detained at least eight Palestinians, including the brother of a Fatah official, during wide-scale raid operations in various parts of the West Bank.

Tomas Niklasson, the Deputy EU Representative in Jerusalem, reaffirmed the EU‘s commitment to the two-state solution between Palestine and Israel, said the paper.
