ISTANBUL, April 20, 2026 (WAFA) – Arab Parliament Speaker Mohammed Al-Yamahi called for a unified international parliamentary voice in confronting the escalating and ongoing violations perpetrated by the occupation. He stressed that the Palestinian cause needs, now more than ever, every supportive voice, every responsible stance, and every sincere effort to uphold Palestinian rights.
During his address to the second meeting of the Parliamentary Group for Supporting Palestine, held in Istanbul, Al-Yamahi commended the initiative of the Speaker of the Turkish Parliament in establishing the "Parliamentary Group for Supporting Palestine," considering it a significant parliamentary movement reflecting a profound awareness of the magnitude of the challenges facing the Palestinian cause.
He emphasized the Arab Parliament's commitment to playing a key and active role in this endeavor.
Al-Yamahi added that the second meeting of the group is being held at a highly sensitive time, as the Palestinian cause witnesses dangerous and rapid developments that necessitate a firm and responsible international stance.
The Speaker of the Arab Parliament reviewed the most serious developments affecting the Palestinian cause recently, including the Israeli Knesset's passage of a dangerous and racist law authorizing the execution of prisoners—a grave and unprecedented violation of international humanitarian law. He also addressed the continued aggressive colonial policies of the occupying authorities, including the approval of new colonial expansion plans in the occupied West Bank, and the ongoing violations against Islamic and Christian holy sites, most notably the Al-Aqsa Mosque, including its closure to worshippers in flagrant violation of freedom of worship and a provocation of Muslim sentiments worldwide.
He stated that all these repeated attacks and violations are occurring in parallel with the continued intransigence of the occupation in implementing the ceasefire agreement in the Gaza Strip and the ongoing severe humanitarian suffering endured by the Palestinian people.
Al-Yamahi stressed that these dangerous developments impose on the entire international community a double responsibility to take urgent and effective action to protect the inalienable rights of the Palestinian people and ensure that the two-state solution remains the only option for achieving a just and comprehensive peace. He emphasized that parliamentary diplomacy, as embodied by this group, is no longer a supplementary option, but has become an effective pressure tool and an active arm in shaping global public opinion, defending the justice of the Palestinian cause, and mobilizing international support for the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people.
