RAMALLAH, May 12, 2018 (WAFA) – The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates strongly condemned on Saturday the stances of Hungary, Romania and the Czech Republic for blocking the release of a statement by the European Union (EU) reasserting the EU’s position on Jerusalem and rejecting US plans to move its embassy in Israel to Jerusalem.
The ministry said in a statement that the position of these three states contradicts in total with EU policy and its previous stances and statements and is a clear breach of international law, UN resolutions, the Geneva Conventions and human rights principles. They also encourage the Israeli occupation authority to continue violating international law.
It said that while the ministry thanks the countries that supported the statement, it nevertheless holds Hungary, Romania and the Czech Republic responsible for blocking the statement and what its consequences on all levels, especially their relationship with the Arab and Islamic worlds.
The ministry warned against other countries falling for Israeli propaganda regarding Jerusalem and the conflict, saying this also will be considered as being partner in the aggression against the Palestinian people and their rights.
It said that it will thoroughly follow the developments of this issue and will continue efforts to make sure countries reject the American decision and not move their embassy to Jerusalem, warning that legal and judicial action will be taken against any country that relocates its embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem.
