Israeli police install additional iron barriers, corridors outside al-Aqsa mosque

JERUSALEM, July 24, 2017 (WAFA) – Israeli police Monday continued its violations against al-Aqsa mosque in Jerusalem, installing additional corridors and iron barriers outside Al-Asbat Gate leading to the mosque in Jerusalem.

WAFA correspondent reported on the tense situation in Jerusalem in the aftermath of this Israeli measure, coupled by the repressive measures taken by Israeli police against worshippers.

Palestinian Muslims have been holding the daily prayers outside the gates to the mosque, insisting that they will not enter it for worship until the metal detectors are removed.

On Monday, Israeli authorities installed smart cameras, metal detectors, and x-ray security scanners outside the mosque, after imposing a tight military cordon around the area.

Israeli police closed the mosque last Friday; July 14th, for Muslims following an attack outside its gates that left three alleged attackers and two policemen dead.

The mosque was reopened on Sunday after metal detectors were installed; a move the Palestinians said they will not accept because it changes the status quo at the mosque.
