Newspapers Review: Israeli demolition of Palestinian homes, settlers attacks focus of dailies

RAMALLAH, July 12, 2017 (WAFA) – The three Palestinian Arabic dailies highlighted on the front page of their Wednesday issue Israeli demolition of Palestinian homes under the pretext of construction without permit as well as Israeli settlers’ attacks against Palestinian civilians in West Bank villages.

The papers said the Israeli municipality of West Jerusalem demolished a three-story building in the Arab East Jerusalem neighborhood of Issawiyeh, while settlers attacked civilians in Kufl Hares in the north of the West Bank.

The papers also said hundreds of people participated in the funeral of Mohammad Jibril in the village of Taqou near Bethlehem. Jibril was shot dead on Monday for allegedly running over Israelis in what Palestinians said was a normal road accident. The Israeli army held his body for 24 hours before it was released to his family.

The UN report on the dismal conditions in Gaza, which was described as ‘unlivable,” was also highlighted on the front page of the dailies.

The papers also reported on the Palestinian-American meeting held in Jerusalem to discuss revival of the peace process with al-Quds quoting PLO Secretary General Saeb Erekat after meeting with US special envoy Jason Greenblatt saying that the US envoy is expected to meet with President Mahmoud Abbas in Ramallah on Thursday.

Al-Hayat al-Jadida quoted Abbas telling a visiting European diplomat that “our people need peace and security more than any other party.”

Al-Ayyam said Hamas has prevented Fatah Revolutionary Council’s deputy secretary general Fayez Abu Eita from leaving the Gaza Strip to Ramallah.
