CAIRO, July 9, 2017 (WAFA) – President Mahmoud Abbas met on Sunday with his Egyptian counterpart Abdul-Fattah el-Sisi in the Heliopolis Palace in Cairo, where they discussed ways to push the peace process forward in light of Israel’s continuing settlement activities.
They discussed the latest developments in Palestine and the Israeli government‘s practices and policies, most notably settlement construction and expansion, which is a major obstacle to security and stability in the region.
Abbas expressed his deep condolences to the people and leadership of Egypt on the victims of the two bombings last Friday at a security checkpoint in Rafah, north of Sinai. He stressed that Palestine stands with Egypt in its “fight against terrorism”.
Abbas also briefed his Egyptian counterpart on the US efforts led by President Donald Trump to strike a historic peace deal between the Palestinians and Israelis in accordance with the two-state solution.
He said a fair solution to the question of Palestine will bring good to the entire region.
