PM Mustafa says peace in region hinges on recognizing Palestinian rights

RAMALLAH, June 17, 2025 (WAFA) - At the opening of the weekly Cabinet meeting this Tuesday, Prime Minister Mohammed Mustafa voiced grave concern over reports documenting widespread devastation in several parts of the Gaza Strip, especially in Rafah, Jabalia, Beit Lahia, Beit Hanoun, eastern Gaza City, and the outskirts of Khan Yunis.

He stressed that the region’s challenges cannot be resolved without recognizing the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people. He noted that the International Peace Conference, originally scheduled to take place in New York today, represented, for the Palestinian leadership, a viable pathway to achieving peace and realizing the establishment of a Palestinian state.

He added that, in line with the directives of President Mahmoud Abbas, sustained efforts and diplomatic engagement with international partners are underway to facilitate the swift resumption of the conference. Mustafa reaffirmed the firm determination not to allow the International Peace Conference to become a casualty of this war, as some parties intend.

The Prime Minister reaffirmed the commitment to advancing the President’s directives to intensify political and diplomatic initiatives aimed at pressuring for an end to the aggression and reclaiming the political and financial rights of the Palestinian people.

The Cabinet also reviewed the latest developments on the ground, particularly the issue of providing shelter for displaced families in refugee camps across the northern West Bank, in the wake of the ongoing Israeli onslaught. This follows the allocation of $2 million to support the completion of temporary shelter centers in the governorates of Tulkarm and Jenin.
