EU missions express serious concern about exit restrictions from Gaza

JERUSALEM, April 5, 2017 (WAFA) - The European Union (EU) missions in Jerusalem and Ramallah Wednesday expressed serious concern at exit restrictions imposed by the de facto authorities in Gaza for travels out of the Gaza Strip, according to a statement.

The de facto Hamas authority in Gaza imposed on March 26 severe restrictions on exits from the Gaza Strip through its crossing-points following the assassination of Hamas operative Mazen Fuqaha two days earlier.

Hamas accused Israel and its collaborators in Gaza of the assassination and decided to close all land and sea exits to prevent escape of the alleged collaborators.

The EU missions called for the immediate lifting of the restrictions.

“The ations of freedom of movement from Gaza should immediately be lifted as a matter of primary urgency for all providers of humanitarian aid as well as for people from Gaza who are in need of medical or other humanitarian support. Such restrictions affect the provision of humanitarian assistance to vulnerable people in Gaza,” they said.
