Israel Seals Bethlehem Village in Search of Alleged Settler Attacker

BETHLEHEM, February 10, 2016 (WAFA) – Israeli forces Wednesday continued to seal the Bethlehem village of Nahalin for the second consecutive day, under the pretext of searching for a Palestinian who allegedly stabbed an Israeli settler near an illegal West Bank settlement.

An Israeli settler, in his twenties, was reportedly stabbed while jogging near the illegal Israeli settlement of ‘Neve Daniel’. The settler sustained moderate wounds.

According to media sources, the Israeli army spokeswoman said only "humanitarian cases" would be let in and out of Nahalin, west of Bethlehem and near the said illegal settlement.

Israeli armed forces Tuesday set up military checkpoints and blocked all entrances leading to the village, preventing Palestinian locals from going in or out of the village.

Forces have been carrying out numerous search campaigns, raiding and wreaking havoc into locals’ homes and detaining youths.

They also took over the rooftops of several homes belonging to locals, and turned them into military outposts.

Since early October 2015, a wave of violence have engulfed the Palestinian Territory, Gaza,  and Israel; fueled by Israel’s unilateral enforcement of a temporal division on al-Aqsa mosque compound, the third holiest site in Islam.

Since then, at least 169 Palestinians, including  34 children and eight women, have been killed by Israeli forces. At least 14.913 injuries were documented.

Last week, Israeli forces imposed a three-day lockdown on the town of Qabatiya, near the West Bank district of Jenin, following a fatal stabbing and shooting attack that was carried out by three of the town’s locals in Jerusalem. The attack claimed the life of an Israeli police officer.
