RAMALLAH, February 8, 2016 (WAFA) - Israel’s plan to close and confiscate four Palestinian family houses in the Jerusalem neighborhood of Sur Baher, coupled with the hunger-striking detainee, Journalist Mohammed al-Qiq’s rejection of an Israeli offer to release him on May 1, hit the front page headlines in Palestinian dailies.
Al-Quds and al-Ayyam reported in their main front page news articles that Israeli military decided to close and confiscate the family houses of four Palestinian detainees in Sur Baher.
Al-Ayyam added that the four detainees are accused of causing an Israeli settler’s death after hurling stones at his vehicle in early September.
Both dailies also reported that Israeli authorities decided to return the bodies of two Palestinians from Jerusalem who were shot dead by Israeli forces following alleged attacks against Israeli targets.
Furthermore, hunger-striking detainee, al-Qiq’s rejection of an Israeli offer to release him on May 1 hit the front page headlines in the dailies.
The dailies added that Palestinians stepped up rallies in protest of al-Qiq’s ongoing administrative detention, without charge or trial, amidst grave concerns that his life may be in danger.
Al-Quds reported that Israeli forces handed demolition and stop-construction notices for several Palestinian houses and a mosque in the West Bank areas of Salfit and Yatma.
Highlighting Fatah-Hamas meetings to bring about Palestinian reconciliation in Doha, al-Quds reported senior Hamas official Mousa Abu Marzouq as saying that the “five-hour-long” dialogue was “positive” and would be completed today.
It also reported on senior Hamas official Salah al-Bardawil as saying that the Doha-based meetings are not designed to “discuss ideas”, but to implement the Cairo agreement.
Moreover, the dailies reported that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu seeks to advance a legislation that would enable the suspension of Arab members of Knesset who meet relatives of Palestinians purportedly involved in killings of Israelis.
Al-Hayat al-Jadida added in this regard that member of Knesset Hanin Zoabi got a 6-month suspended sentence and a fine of NIS 3,000, for insulting two police officers.
Al-Quds and al-Ayyam reported that France cancelled purchase of Israeli drones following BDS pressures.
It also highlighted the dispute between Israel and Jordan, which is responsible for Jerusalem‘s holy sites in line with a 1994 peace treaty with Israel, over the installation of surveillance cameras in Al-Aqsa Mosque compound.
Al-Ayyam reported that after lifting the blockade imposed on the northern West Bank town of Qabatiya, Israeli forces have imposed economic restrictions on Qabatiya locals.
Al-Ayyam said that Hamas’ military wing, the Izz al-Din al-Qassam Brigades, said on Sunday that the group executed one of its members for what the group called in a statement a “misconduct and immoral behavior.”
