Israel’s Demolition of 24 Homes in Hebron Area, 2 in Jerusalem Focus of Dailies

RAMALLAH, February 3, 2016 (WAFA) – The three Palestinian Arabic dailies focused in their Wednesday issue on Israel’s demolition of 24 residential structures in Masafer Yatta area, to the south of Hebron, in addition to two homes in Jerusalem.

They said Israeli forces demolished 24 Palestinian-owned residential structures in the village of Janba, in Masafer Yatta area, under the pretext of construction without a permit. The demolition left more than 80 Palestinians homeless.

Meanwhile, the dailies said, Israeli authorities in Jerusalem Tuesday demolished two Palestinian-owned homes in Silwan and Sur Baher, two Palestinian neighborhoods in Jerusalem, also under the same aforementioned pretext.

Al-Quds said the Council of Ministers gave orders to take immediate actions to provide relief to the displaced families in Masafer Yatta.

Al-Hayat al-Jadida and al-Ayyam reported on the deteriorating health condition of hunger striking Palestinian detainee in Israeli jails, journalist Mohammad al-Qiq. Al-Ayyam added that physicians at Afula hospital warned that al-Qiq is showing warning signs of a possible stroke.

Al-Ayyam said official Israeli figures indicated that the number of settlers in the West Bank and Jerusalem increased by 55% during the term of current Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

It said Netanyahu ordered Israeli authorities to fast track the home demolition of Palestinians suspected of carrying out attacks on Israeli targets, as a punishment against their families.

Al-Quds quoted Israeli Yedioth Ahronoth daily which said that Israeli authorities are planning to build 500 new housing units in illegal Efrat settlement near Bethlehem.
