Israeli Army’s Killing of Palestinian near Tulkarm Focus of Dailies

RAMALLAH, February 2, 2016 (WAFA) – The three Palestinian Arabic dailies focused in their Tuesday issue on the fatal shooting of a Palestinian youth by Israeli soldiers near Tulkarm on Monday morning.

They said that 19-year-old Ahmad Jamal Toba from the village of Kafr Jamal, south of Tulkarm, was shot dead by Israeli troops outside Salit settlement, illegally built on the village’s land, after he allegedly attempted to stab some soldiers.

Meanwhile, the dailies reported on the recent Israeli military closure of Ramallah and al-Bireh cities.

Al-Ayyam and al-Quds said that Israeli forces re-opened all roads leading to Ramallah and al-Bireh, following strenuous efforts by the Palestinian Military Liaison office with the Israeli side.

On a different subject, the two dailies said a fraud investigation by Israeli dailies Haaretz has revealed that 14 of 15 supposed real estate acquisitions of Palestinian land in the West Bank made by Al-Watan, a company owned by the right wing Amana group, were forged.

Al-Hayat al-Jadida said United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki-moon, in a story published by New York Times, said that, “Palestinians — especially young people — are losing hope over what seems a harsh, humiliating and endless [Israeli] occupation.”

Al-Ayyam reported on the UN official as saying that, “the everyday reality of occupation provokes anger and despair, which are major drivers of violence and extremism.”

Al-Hayat al-Jadida said Israel’s public prosecution rejected an appeal to free hunger striking Palestinian prisoner in Israeli jails, journalist Mohammad al-Qiq, despite medical reports indicating a serious deterioration in his health.

Al-Quds said Dore Gold, director general of the Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs, announced that Israel will not withdraw from the territories it occupied in 1967, including the Syrian Golan Heights.
