Al-Qiq to Remain under Administrative Detention, Israel’s Public Prosecution Orders

RAMALLAH, February 1, 2016 (WAFA) – Israeli public prosecution Monday decided to keep hunger striking Palestinian prisoner, journalist Mohammad al-Qiq, held under administrative detention, without a charge or trial, despite of his critical health status.

Jawad Boulus, head of the legal unit at the Palestinian Prisoner’s Society (PPS), said that Israel’s public prosecution, upon the recommendation of the Supreme Court of Israel, decided to keep al-Qiq held under administrative detention, despite medical reports from Aful hospital, which affirmed the seriousness of his health condition.

According to PPS, the Israeli public prosecution claimed that al-Qiq was still conscious, and that there was no need to end his administrative detention.

Earlier Monday, the Israeli military prosecution and internal security agency, Shabak, held a meeting to discuss the suspension of the administrative detention of al-Qiq, following a severe deterioration in his health after 69 consecutive days of hunger strike.
